Caerau Hillfort is open during any reasonable time during daylight hours.

Hidden Hillfort Heritage Centre is due to be open in Autumn 2021. Entry will be free.

Facilities

Presently, there is no access to any facilities onsite due to building developments.

Light refreshments, accessible toilets and baby changing facilities will be available at the Hidden Hillfort Heritage Centre. There will be on-site interpretation, exhibitions and digital trails. A children’s play area will be located next to the centre.

Bicycle/walking

The site will be signposted from the Ely Trail

Car

Caerau Hillfort is easily accessed via Cowbridge Road West (A48). Travelling from Culverhouse Cross on Cowbridge Road West, take the second right after B&Q marked Heol Trelai. After about 1 km take a right turn when you see the Home Guard Club on to Church Road. Continue passed the Post Office and the site and Heritage Centre are on your right-hand side.

Bus

The site is a short walk (2 minutes) from several of the bus stops on Heol Trelai (e.g. Prendergast Place).  This is serviced by numbers 15, 17 and 18 buses which run a circular route leaving and returning to Cardiff city centre (Westgate Street).  Buses run every 5-10 minutes between 5.15am and 11:10pm.

Train

The closest train station to the site is Waungron Road, which is adjacent to Ely bridge and approximately 1.5 miles from the site.  A nextbike hire location is situated next to Waungron Road Station.

Coach

There is no designated coach parking at the site. The nearest parking is along Heol Trelai from which the site is signposted.

Accessibility

Access

The ramparts are steep and uneven in places and not suitable for wheelchairs. Work is being conducted later this year to consolidate pathways and put in steps in steeper areas

Parking

Parking is available along Church Road and in the surrounding streets. Please take care when parking and remember that this is a residential area.

Dog friendly

Dogs are welcome, but please keep them on a lead as animals graze the site. We also Kindly ask that you clear up after your dog.
